South Hampstead 4+: Why Are So Many Parents Underprepared?
/Have a little scan of the assessment criteria. Then listen to what parents will be telling you about the 4+ at South Hampstead.
It’s actually really not even their fault. That is until they speak to CMT and we tell them a few things and they still continue to be underprepared. Then, that is fully on them.
‘The first assessment is a playdate assessment’
‘Girls are not asked to read or write’
‘No preparation is advised.’
Just those three sentences say it all really.
With about a 1:15 chance of passing round 1, are you really going to make the decision to not prepare your daughter? Like for real?
Really?
Makes no sense to me - at all!
‘Oh but she goes to nursery full time!’
‘The nursery have prepared her!’
NO.
That is not the job of any nursery or pre-school. It’s not even one they are able to do given the amount of other children that they need to care for every single day and all of the other everyday things that nursery practitioners have to deal with each and everyday.
It’s laughable actually how many clients I’ve had who get into a ‘top’ nursery or pre-school and then completely hand over most of responsibility for their child’s development to them. Some clients even stop working with CMT! Because, what is the point anyway? They are already investing tens of thousands of pounds on the pre-school. Why spend a fraction of that on actually knowing how to support their children themselves?
They’re not clients we want to be working with anyway.
If you are sending your daughter to South Hampstead for 2027 entry, know that our girls have been prepared to the highest of standards. Know that we have put in hundreds of hours of work to support each and every one of them. Know that our girls know how to read and they know how to write. Know that our girls have covered a broad and vast mathematical curriculum. Know that our girls have insane vocabularies and can answer up to Level 4 questions with ‘ease’. Know that they have amazing fine motor skills and fine motor control because of all of the work that they have put in over the last 12 months (hundreds of hours of work over the space of 12 months!).
Don’t send your daughter to South Hampstead at 4+ underprepared and expect miracles. You will be deeply disappointed. And you’ll find someone else to blame I’m sure. But really, honestly and truly - there is no one else to blame.
