'It's our little secret!'
/How odd.
How strange.
But believe it or not, I actually want to work with clients who are delighted to work with myself or one of my amazing teachers.
I actually am not interested in working with clients who want to keep us a secret! Hint - Many still do!
Let’s not normalise this behaviour. It’s not normal.
Why on earth should it be a secret that we are supporting, teaching, nourishing and nurturing your child?
Why?
Is it because you are ashamed? Then you shouldn’t even be entertaining the thought of speaking with myself or one of my teachers. If you are ashamed, seriously ask yourself why?
Is it because you are truly interested in supporting your child with their development or is it because you are concerned about what Mary Jane down the road will think of you? Hint - sadly, in this messed up world, for most people the answer will be the latter!
Well, I truly don’t care what anyone thinks of me when it comes to raising my child. And neither should you! They are not the ones paying your bills or your mortgage as far as I can see!
It is so far from their business, that even if they open their mouths to utter a single word about my son - they have already crossed a line!
When we work with clients, we need both parents to truly want to work with us. That’s kind of obvious right? Well, clearly not - as I’m having to write about it!
I find it rude and I find it disrespectful when I am told:
‘Oh, my husband/wife doesn’t agree with Tutoring!’
‘Oh, my husband/wife thinks he/she is too little for Tutoring!’
Sorry but what is there not to agree with?
You don’t agree with a highly specialised and highly experienced teacher supporting your child with their learning, with their development, with their language, with their fine motor skills? What exactly do you not agree with?
Why is your child ‘too little’? Oh sorry, perhaps you want to just wait until your child is 4 so you can hand over all the work to the school you hope they will go to? After all, that’s what you’re paying for right?
By Reception they’re not ‘too little’ anymore are they?
Stop villainising tutoring. Stop making it something that it is not. Stop speaking negatively about something that you truly do not understand. And if you truly believe that your child is ‘too little’ then please don’t be surprised that when you send them to a 4+ Assessment at the likes of Westminster, DUCKS and South Hampstead that they are not offered a place. The students who pass those assessments have been thoroughly prepared to the highest standards to be able to go in and show exactly what the assessors are looking for.
Also - to be clear, we do not offer ad hoc tuition. Here and there lessons. It’s not useful and it’s not how child development works. There are many other agencies who will entertain your ad hoc lesson proposal. Not mine.
